Educational Grants and Scholarships

The Institute currently works to provide funding for extraordinary students who are likely to give back to the Kurdish community or improve Kurdish-American relations through their work. Education has always been highly valued in Kurdish society, and with a new era of openness and freedom dawning upon the region, the Institute believes that the Kurds will need strong, capable, and well-trained leaders to implement the reforms that come with modernization. Thus, qualified and motivated Kurdish students in need of assistance are encouraged to apply for available aid from the Institute and a special scholarship fund has been established to encourage this exchange. If you would like to make a contribution to this fund or if you would like to apply for assistance, email education@instituteforkurds.org.

Furthermore, the Institute works to encourage higher education in Kurdistan by providing support for students applying for funding from alternative sources, such as Fullbrights and other internationally competitive scholarships. If you are a viable candidate for such a grant or scholarship and would like assistance in submitting a competitive application that pertains to the Kurds or are ethnically Kurdish, email the Institute at education@instituteforkurds.org.

The Institute also makes grants to academics and students that are conducting major projects on the Kurds or in Kurdistan. Qualified candidates in need of assistance should submit project proposals to the Institute, at education@instituteforkurds.org .

Finally, in order to increase the overall level of scholarship throughout the region, the Institute actively works to include Kurdistan as a potential target for scholarships and educational grants available from other institutions. This includes heightening recognition of Kurdish as an important regional language and increasing the gross amount of funding that goes into studying the Kurds and their homeland. The Institute works with major governmental and private organizations to ensure that programs are established throughout Kurdistan for such a purpose and monitors the overall quality and quantity of access to higher education in the region.
