Educational and Scholarly Focus

At the core of the Institute’s efforts to improve understanding between Americans and Kurds is the promotion of educational and scholarly opportunities relating to the Kurds. In view of the fact that Kurds and Americans will have increasingly important interactions throughout the twenty-first century, it will be critical to both societies to have a heightened awareness of and knowledge about each other’s culture, standard of living, beliefs, and customs.

Thus, two of the primary objectives of the Institute for Kurds are to include Kurdish studies in appropriate American institutions and to increase the quality and access to American studies within Kurdistan. In order to do so, the Institute conducts a number of activities ranging from visiting universities to make presentations about Kurds to providing educational grants to aid those interested in furthering Kurdish scholarship.
